Road to Valentine’s: 7 of the Hottest Couples of Racing Flicks
February 6, 2015
We’ve already heard a lot about those car and racing films like The Fast and the Furious, Drive, and Rush. But while you’re too busy admiring their hot rides and their exhaust systems and engines, you might’ve missed some of the finer points of the story, particularly the drivers and their love lives. So let’s bring you up to speed with who’s going out with whom in some of your favorite car flicks.
Let’s start with the best known car-themed film.
Dominic Toretto and Letty Ortiz (The Fast and the Furious)
Dom and Letty have been together for some time now, even before the first film of the Fast and Furious began. Though their relationship is cut short sometime later and Dom had a brief tryst with a sexy police officer in Brazil, they managed to get back together by the end of the sixth installment. Dom is so in love with Letty that he’s willing to take a bullet and a huge leap of faith to get her back.
Brian O’Conner and Mia Toretto (The Fast and the Furious)
Who would have thought going undercover and infiltrating a heist crew could lead you to your true calling, a wonderful family, and the love of his life? Yet that’s what Brian found while investigating a series of semi-trailer truck hijackings. Though initially conflicted, O’Conner eventually grew to love his new life and family, as well as Dom Toretto’s sister Mia with whom he had a kid.
Han Seoul-Oh and Gisele Yashar (The Fast and the Furious)
Han was one of Dom’s closest pals and he even assisted them in a hijacking in fuel tanker. Giselle, on the other hand, was one of the film antagonist’s liaisons until she was saved by Dom. They met up later in Brazil to pull another heist and eventually fell in love with each other.
But enough with the Fast and Furious franchise! Let’s get down to the other films!
Nikki Lauda and Marlene Knaus (Rush)
Nikki Lauda is an Austrian Formula One driver and technical genius. He met German socialite Marlene Knaus sometime before his life-changing crash in the 1976 Formula One season, which was held in the infamous Nürburgring race track. They eventually got married in a private ceremony, and their marriage was blessed with two children.
JP and Sonoshee McLaren (Redline)
Pompadour-wearing greaser “Sweet” JP gets beaten by Sonoshee “Cherry Boy Hunter” McLaren in the Yellowline car race staged in the planet Dorothy after his ride was sabotaged by his mechanic. They’ll meet later in the Redline competition, where they’ll team up to win the championship and declare their love for each other afterwards.
Cole Trickle and Claire Lewicki (Days of Thunder)
Cole trickle wants to make it big in racing, particularly in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. During an intense bout with rival Rowdy Burns, both managed to get their cars destroyed and themselves seriously injured which led to the two racers to be taken out for the season. While recovering, Cole fell in love with Dr. Claire Lewinski, who would later support him on his comeback.
Lightning McQueen and Sally Carrera (Cars)
All rookie Lightning McQueen wanted was to win the Piston Cup and make it big in the car racing industry. Things take a turn for the worse when he found himself trapped in a sleepy town called Radiator Springs after he was charged with repairing the main road he destroyed. There he’d realize that there’s more to racing than winning, meeting new friends as well as the love of his life Sally Carrera.
So as you can see, there’s more to racing flicks than fancy rides and jaw-dropping stunts. Best if you explore the drivers and their relationships with other characters. That way, you won’t miss out on the latest scoop about them!
